Earlier this week, we got together at a local coffee shop.
We had plans to do some long range planning for OGL!
It was so good to connect in person!
We spent a lot of time talking turkey!
We talked about our families and our Littles! (OF COURSE!!!)
We talked about remodeling projects we’re in the midst of…
Laurie and her husband are taking on a full kitchen remodel this winter
while Laura and her hubby have been refreshing all their bedrooms this fall!
We talked about our upcoming holiday plans
and the day to day happenings in our lives
AND,
of course, we reminisced about our years in kindergarten
and how things have changed in the mere 3+ years we’ve been out of the classroom!
Eventually we pulled out our calendars and got busy planning
and a after four plus hours together,
we had a general outline for the upcoming few months!
PHEW! Who knew planning was such hard work?!?
😘 😉 😘
Can you tell we have a lot of fun together?
MOVING ON…
While our “meeting” was a FAVE from the past week,
we also took time to look back and brainstorm
the many ideas we have for family games!
Together, we created quite a list of additional FAVES!
In yesterday’s post,
we featured a few of these favorites
and we provided ways that each could be adapted for the holiday season ahead.
The ideas shared were each simple, easy and fun…
all of which are important to us!
Today we’re sharing MORE of our favorite Thanksgiving games!
And , if you can believe it,
each of these is SUPER SIMPLE while still being engaging for all ages!
To pull off any of these games,
you’ll only need a minute or two of prep
and very few materials.
Each will bring lots of laughs and fun to your holiday gathering!
This game was first shared in a past Thanksgiving post
and is a favorite of Laurie’s family!
That's why we simply needed to devote another post to it this year!
This is actually a game that lasts all day long and involves all your guests!
During your gathering, people will secretly hide the turkey
while others are on the lookout for it!
It's sure to keep you entertained all day long!
Read on for the details!
To begin, you, as the host, hide a chocolate turkey somewhere in the space where you and your guests will be celebrating Thanksgiving together (this could be inside your home or even outside in the yard)! We found our turkey at a local grocery store. You can search Google for a "Chocolate Turkey" to find one available near you! We also found one available at World Market or Amazon.
As people arrive at the gathering, explain the game to each participant! You may want to have a second chocolate turkey (or a photo of one) to show your guests so they know what they are looking for! (If you purchase two, you could even have two winners - an adult one and a Little one!)
Don’t worry… as the day progresses,
your guests will quickly catch on to how the game is played!
Whenever someone finds the turkey, that person, without drawing attention to him or herself, writes their name on a sheet of paper, followed by a tally mark, to show one point earned. Then that person secretly hides the turkey in a new place.
This play continues throughout the day! Your Littles will think that your chocolate turkey is having quite an adventure!
Whoever has recorded the most points at the end of your celebration gets to take the chocolate turkey home!
You might want to make a rule ahead of time
that the turkey has to always have part of it showing…
Especially if young Littles will be joining in the fun!
No hiding it in a drawer or a box...
Unless, of course, you don’t mind people going through your closets and cupboards!
Perhaps your family is one that enjoys gathering around the Thanksgiving table
once the dinner dishes have been cleared!
While everyone waits for dessert to be served,
we suggest playing one of the games outlined below!
Each is perfect for your school-age Littles and older guests, too!
Best of all - you’ll only need a piece of paper and a writing utensil for each player
In addition, you may want to have a few prizes available, too!
Hmmmm - those chocolate turkeys would make a great prize, wouldn’t they?
♦️ TURKEY FEAST!
Players can play individually or as teams. Each player/team has one minute to list as many foods as they can that are traditionally eaten on Thanksgiving day. The player/team with the longest list is the winner!
♦️ THANKSGIVING TONGUE TWISTER!
Teams take turns completing this task. Each team chooses one team member to take the challenge for the group! Start a stopwatch and start talking! Which team’s member can say the tongue twister the fastest OR perhaps three times without an error? You decide what rules you’d like to put in place!
Here’s an example of a possible Thanksgiving tongue twister: Ten tiny turkeys took their time getting to the Thanksgiving table! OR Pretty pumpkin pies were piled on the purple platter!
♦️ T•H•A•N•K•S•G•I•V•I•N•G!
Each team has 3 minutes to write down as many words as possible out of the letters in the word THANKSGIVING! Each word must be at least 3 letter words. The team with the most words written in 3 minutes, wins! (You could assign more points to bigger words if you’d like!)
♦️ Thankful!
Each team has 1 minute to list as many things that they are thankful for that begin with the letter “T”. If your group is enjoying the game, play again by changing to writing things you are thankful for that begin with the letter "H" and then "A" and so on! The team with the longest list (or lists overall) wins!

Such fun games to play together...better than sitting and watching football.
