Look who turned 1 this week!

ree

Yes, Laurie’s granddaughter, Little P, celebrated her first birthday a few days ago!

The theme was “The Cutest Pumpkin in the Patch”!

ree

It’s hard to believe that a year has come and gone since we first welcomed

this sweet little one into our OGL family!

ree

And, more importantly,

It’s been a year of growing and loving together for Grammy Laurie and her crew!

ree

Those of you who have read our blog for awhile now know

that we LOVE spending time with our families and especially our Littles!

In fact, many of our posts are devoted to our Littles and making memories with them.

BUT...

who says they get to have all the fun when Halloween rolls around?

ree

Today we’ve got a grown-up treat to consider!

It’s one that can be shared with other GRANDS in your life

OR,

as Laurie explains, a memorable activity for GRANDS and MIDDLES (our grown kids)

to take part in together…

CHEERS!

ree

Have you heard of the Halloween tradition

that some friends or neighborhoods participate in?

It’s called… You’ve Been Booed!

A Halloween BOO is a gift or treat left anonymously

by a friend, family member, or neighbor at your front door.

Typically, a note with a “We’ve Been BOOed”” sign is included.

The note usually challenges each household to continue the tradition

by passing treats and a sign on to someone else!

Once your household has been BOOed, you leave the sign on your front door

to let others know you’ve already been surprised!

It’s a great way to connect with others and a fun experience for all ages!

Today, Laurie is taking this concept to the next level

by adding an adult twist to it!

ree

Last year, a few days before Halloween, I was home and heard a knock on the door.

When I went to check, I found a bottle of my favorite gin sitting on the steps

with a note that said “You’ve Been Boozed!” with a picture of a ghost on it!

Later (5 months later!), I found out

that it had been delivered by a very dear teacher friend.

It made my evening!

I really enjoyed the surprise!

I decided to continue this game with the grown-ups in my extended family this year,

since relaxing with a nice drink is something we all enjoy.

ree

First, I wrote up some directions.

ree

I purchased a You've Been BOOzed bag I found on Amazon.

(We noticed that these are currently out of stock, but there are gift bags or bottle labels to choose from.)

ree

I bought a bottle of wine, put it in the bag,

attached the laminated label and added a few treats.

We were all set and ready to get things started!

ree

It was time to make the first delivery which was to my niece and her husband.  My husband and I  - both 60-somethings - were laughing and whispering like kids as we parked down the road and sneaked up to the door.  We set our bottle down, banged on the door and ran and hid.

ree

After the bottle had been discovered, we snuck back to the car and drove home, feeling quite proud of this fun surprise we had just pulled off!

ree

Since I wanted our version of You’ve Been BOOzed!

to continue through the households of my extended family,

I actually wrote up a suggested route for everyone to follow

(ex. 1, Jones, 2. Smith, 3. Johnson, etc).

I planned out the route to minimize the delivery time needed between households

and this also solved the issue of knowing who had already been BOOzed!

The downside to this method is that you know who BOOzed you!

(However, with doorbell cameras these days, we’d probably know anyway!)

Don’t worry though, since you don’t know when the BOOzing will actually happen,

the initial surprise is still there!

Here’s a few of the family BOOzes that were delivered and received!

ree

You can probably tell that we all know each other’s favorites!

ree

Here are a few additional things to consider…

🔶 There is no need to buy a “Booze Bag”.  Your bottle will tell the story well enough!

🔶If you want it to continue, be sure to include a tag with directions, including encouragement to keep the game moving!

🔶 Of course, with Halloween only a week away, it may be a bit late to start this traveling door-to-door fun this year.  However, choose someone you know and just surprise them, like my friend did for me!  You’ll make their day!

A Wine Pumpkin Box!

I had seen this idea all over Instagram recently,

so I decided to try it for the adults at Little P’s birthday party.

It was so simple!

ree

1.  Clean out a taller pumpkin.

2. Choose your favorite boxed wine.

3. Cut a hole near the bottom of the pumpkin for the wine spout.

4Pull the wine bag out of the box, insert it into the pumpkin, and pull the spout through the hole!

NOTE: We placed ice packs inside the pumpkin as we used white wine and wanted to keep it cold.

ree

An Ice Bucket Pumpkin!

We also had an adult beverage on ice at the party!

Check out this seasonal way to keep any Halloween drink chilled!

1.  Clean out a shorter, wide pumpkin.

2. Cut a large opening at the top of the pumpkin.

3. Line the pumpkin with foil.

4. Fill the pumpkin with ice.

5. Add your bottled or canned beverage!

ree

Okay, Grands and Middles…

It’s your turn!

Have some fun this spooky season!

And, remember... We’re only as young as we act!!

ree

This grown-up twist on the classic “You’ve Been Booed” tradition is such a fun and creative idea! Surprise treats like these bring laughter and connection. Using custom boxes for packaging your boozy gifts would make them even more delightful—adding a festive touch and personal charm to every doorstep delivery.
