Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few days,

you are probably well aware that Winter Olympics 2026 is here!

It’s rather amazing that this year we are celebrating

100 years of the Olympic Winter Games!

The opening ceremony last Friday, offered a time travel for us all

from Chamonix, France in 1924 to Milan and Cortina, Italy in 2026!

It was fascinating to see how the events and styles have changed

over the last century!

Today, in honor of our love of the Olympics,

we’re sharing a few of our tried and true

Gold Medal Treats & Sweets!

All three are simple and Little friendly

and would be perfect to serve at a watch party

OR

during your own version of the Winter Olympics!

Each of the 3 treats and sweets we’re sharing today

would make any Olympic experience that more special!

Littles of all ages love making and eating these gold medal treats!

Over the years, these have been a hit at many of our own Olympic gatherings!

INGREDIENTS

• lemon or Golden Oreo cookies

Pull ‘n Peel Twizzlers

• white frosting

DIRECTIONS

1.  Carefully twist each cookie and pull one side off - try to keep as much of the filling on one side of the cookie when twisting them apart.

2.  Peel 2 strings of licorice off and tie them together.

3.  Add additional frosting to the filling in each cookie.  (This will act as glue.)

4. Press the licorice ends into the frosting and add the other side of the cookie, as well, securing the licorice to the "medal".  You now have your edible Gold Ribbons!

OPTION #2 - use Fruit Roll-Ups in place of the Twizzlers for a wider ribbon!!

This is the perfect snack to enjoy while watching the Olympics this week!

Everyone can create their own snack cups,

choosing which ingredients they want to include in their “torch”!

AN ADDED BONUS…

You’ll find that these are the perfect size for your young Littles!

Older viewers may want a different container to house their treats!

INGREDIENTS

• cake style ice cream cones (the bigger the better!)

• popcorn OR Puffcorn

Crunchy Cheetos

M & M’s (optional)

DIRECTIONS

1.  Set out the cake style ice cream cones.  These will be your “torch” snack cups!

2. Set out bowls of popcorn/puffcorn and Cheetos.  Then let everyone grab an ice cream cone to fill!  We put popcorn/puffcorn in the bottom of the cup and then a few added Cheetos at the top.  They looked like the flames coming from the Olympic torch!

3.  You can also set out a bowl of M & M’s and everyone can sprinkle a few over the mixture!

Did you know?

Both regular and peanut M & M’s

are the same colors as those found on the rings of the Olympic flag?

They are a great option for adding any sweet touch to an Olympic treat,

as you will see below!

It doesn’t get much easier than this!

Make rice krispie bars, using your own recipe.

You can even buy prepackaged ones to use instead.

INGREDIENTS

• rice krispie bars, cut into squares

M & M’s (a blue, dark brown, red, yellow and green one for each bar)

• white frosting

DIRECTIONS

So simple!  Add five  small  dollops of frosting to the top of each rice krispie bar (see photo above - dollops are under the M & Ms, as shown).  Press your M & M’s onto the dollops, creating the Olympic logo!

NOTE:  You could add the M & M logo to brownies, iced cookies or even a slice of pie!

Do you know the significance of the Olympic flag

with its logo and colors?

The message of the Olympics is one we all can embrace and celebrate

and, as GRANDS, one we are thrilled to share with our families

and especially our Littles!

Will you be watching the Olympics pretty much non-stop during the next two weeks!

How about you???

As we wind down today’s post,

Laura has a favorite Winter Olympics memory to share with you all…

Hubby and I were students at the University of Minnesota

(and had recently begun dating)

when Herb Brooks (the U of M hockey coach)

was named to lead the 1980 Olympic team in Lake Placid!

As some of you may recall, that underdog team famously defeated

the heavily favorited Soviet Union in the semi-finals

and then went on to win gold against Finland!

It was known as a Miracle on Ice!

This team of college and amateur players pulled off

one of the biggest upsets in sports history

and captured the nation’s attention and inspired immense pride for our country!

It was a magical time!

If you'd like to learn more,

check out this recently released documentary from Netflix.

We can’t wait to relive these memories!

We’ll leave you today with these wise words from Herb Brooks,

All of these are such fun and a great way to share the Olympics with the kids. And I had to write down that quote. It is so wise. This post will be a feature this week. #HomeMattersParty

I love these fun ideas to celebrate the Olympics! Those medals are so cute! I definitely remember the hockey games. We watched them as newlyweds (sorta) and cheered when the US won! It truly was a dream team!

My husband (Laura's) was reminding me last night of where we were when the games against Russia and then Finland (for the gold) took place! He had very detailed memories which surprised me! The team really did unite the country! Fun memories!
